At a point, he started to laugh more at her sudden brightness, proclamations of “it’s delicious!” like that was still a surprise, than he did her picky fretting and grossed out wriggles. Why, he couldn’t say — why did it make him smile, to see her smile? Was he just that fed-up with her complaining?
